Business Continuity

Here are four good reasons why you should develop a business continuity plan:

  1. After an incident has occurred it reduces the amount of thinking time!
  2. A well written business continuity plan can help you to contain an incident and minimise the extent of damage.
  3. It gives you an awareness of the possibilities of disasters that can affect your business and how to prevent them from happening in the first place.
  4. It is good health and safety management.

Is Business Continuity another piece of red tape?

No, in fact it is far from it!

It could be the very thing that keeps your business afloat when even a minor disaster strikes. Business managers invariably believe that they have everything covered because to date nothing has gone seriously wrong. And most likely nothing will go wrong, but can you afford to take the risk?.

For example what if there was a small fire at your business premises? It can be enough to stop your business for a few of days.
Ask yourself these questions:

  • What if your electricity supply failed?
  • What if your IT networks went down?
  • What if your telephones went down? For just a day? A week?
  • What if your key documents were destroyed in a fire?
  • What if you could not gain access to the building?
  • What if you had casualties?

How would you manage the above? Would your business survive the above?

Business Continuity planning can help you to manage documented incidents which in turn could help your business to survive.
